Information on Shed Tools

We've had this tool for a few years now and it still works like the day we bought it. This compound miter saw is used on almost every project we've done so far. It has payed for itself over and over.

Our bench grinder is actually three years old and the picture above is relatively new, compared to mine, so mine varies from the picture above. This tool has worked fine for everything I use it for, which is sharpening blades, etc., but we use it mostely on a moderate to rare basis.

Our Delta Drill Press (shown above) works very nicely, We're especially pleased with it and would buy it again. The only problem with it is that it seems very small on bigger projects. For the times it seems small are the times we had wished we had purchased a floor model.

This planer works well. It's rubber feeders gum up rather quickly compared to steel rollers, but that problem is on most all portable planers. The only other thing I have noticed is that I feel the motor could a bit stronger for hardwoods. I would recommend this product for people who would use it about once or twice a week.

I would like to clarify that the picture above is the closest I could find to my table saw. It's a craftsmen, and it's about 6 years old now. It works well, for the moderate user. This table saw requires a lot of attention to keep it squared up in all aspects(this could also be that it was keep outside in harsh alaska climate for 3 1/2 of those six years until our shed was built). This tool when kept square and is given attention can be a pretty accurate tool. The few things that become frustrating about this tool is that the miter guage is cut so that you can't use Delta, Jet, etc. tenoning jigs, and most other jigs on it. It's also hard to fing supplimental fences for it. This tool is defiantly not a replacement for a cabinet saw.

This tool we can't wait to get. Our shop gets so dusty when we're working that we've decided to get one to help keep it clean, and dust free. Together with the Dust collector and the Air filtration system our shop will be virtually dust free.

Welcome to one of my favorite tools in the shop the band saw. This is a Jet Canada Band saw, which is why it's blue in the shop tour page. It works great, the only real attention it needs is to realign the blade every now and then. This band saw re-sawes very nicely even through oak, and other hardwoods! Our tension knob broke on the band saw and just one call we got a human, not an answering machine, but a real person and their customer service is excellent! They even shipped the part for free on 2 day express.

Because of our space situation we chose the Jet DC-1100. This dust collector works very well for what we use it for. Hint, get the 5 micron bags, their is a big difference between the 30 micron and 5 micron.

He's another Jet Canada tool, our 6" jointer. This also works great even though it only has a 3/4 HP motor compared to the 1 HP on the Jet US models. Even with a 3/4 HP motor the machine has never bogged down and or left burn marks (and thats using Oak, Purple Heart, Poplar, Cedar, etc.. This machine is also one of my most favorite tools.

We decided to purchase this tool after realizing the capability's of our drill press, and realizing that the tallest drum sanders avalible in our town is 1 1/2" high. We chose this spindle sander because it also has an oscillating belt sander, and a nice alternative to a belt sander. We are very pleased with this product so far.

This will replace the Ryobi router (it's about time!). This is a great router! definatly a top notch router. The variable speed works better than anticipated. We've decided to purchase this router because we want a router table, and this way we can keep the fixed base in the router table and use the plunge router for all freehand stuff. And it works great for those applications.

This was a nice addition to the shop a little while back. It has pulled it's weight and with a max. RPM of 2700, it's a nice tool for drilling holes and what naught. The only problems with this tool is that their is no torque or clutch setting so it makes it more difficult to drive in screws along with the fact their is no brake on the chuck, so when you let go of the trigger the drill still winds down to a stop. This could also be our fault because we're so used to the cordless drill (with clutch and brake) which we've had much longer than this drill.

Great Drill! This one is the predessesor to the 14.4 volt drill we have had for almost 8 years now. this one appears to work just as well as the 14.4 vold which was also a craftsmen.

This is nice tool for cutting old nails and really has not much use around the shop, but when we do use it it's very nice tool to have. As of this time I really have not had any problems with it.

This Jig saw isn't made for the kinda stuff we would use it for. We use this tool as little as possible and try to avoid it as much as possible. The angle setting knob broke the first time we've ever used it, it will not track right, and it nearly impossible to cut through hardwood. As you can see below this tool will be replaced with a Bosch!

The craftsmen random orbit sander works O.K.. It could improved upon in many many ways. At this time this tool is holding on by a thread. It's a perfect tool for the moderate to light user, and in that application should last a long time. We've had this tool also for about 8 years. It will soon be replaced with a Bosch, because as I said it is holding on by a tread.

We've had this tool for almost twelve years now, and it's still running. It still works up to par, but we hope to eventually replace this one too. It gets the job done but it's very loud and dust collection is virtually unheard of. The Bag on it does not work at all, and the bag is almost unusable

We've had this circular saw for about 6 years now. Suffice to say this saw is not very accurate, but then I guess we get what we pay for. The base isn't parallel to the blade, the arbor wobbles, and it boughs down very easily even on plywood with a brand new blade. We hope to replaced this tool in the future.

This tool works very well and for 99percent of what we do we really don't need the adjustable fence.

This sawzall works very well, we haven't had and problems with it. When you need it it's a great tool to have.
You know we have to have a list of tools that we want because you know that you can never have too many tools!

This random orbit sander will replace the craftsmen. We chose this one because it was in our price range and was one here in town. Another plus is how good the dust collection is on it, we can even hook the Dust Collector to it.

This jig saw will replace the craftsmen mentioned above. We chose to buy this one because, it's variable, it has a barrel grip, and it has a blade tracking device to keep the blade perpindicular to the work surface.
